“The Tree” as it is affectionately referred to by locals has been around over 40 years. It began as “The Century Club” a private membership country club but went public when the Rose Family purchased it in the 1980’s. It has one of the best practice facilities in the valley and its driving range and practice green are filled every evening with local high school golfers working on their games. The course is always in great condition thanks to long time Greens Superintendent, Gary Hickerson, who makes sure the playing conditions meet his high standards. There are reachable par fives to get birdies on here and tough par threes where you will give shots back if your iron play isn’t spot on. Lots of short irons to par fours if you can shape your tee shots to take advantage of the doglegs, but you better keep your ball below the hole on these small sloping greens if you want to make putts. Really well bunkered around the greens and a few water hazards you need to avoid to score well here. The water on #18 will speed up your heart rate if you are trying to get in with a great score. The outside staff will make you feel “like a member” when you show up for your tee time, as it has been their motto for years. Jesse Perillo, PGA Professional, makes sure the young guns move quickly to take your golf bag and get it on a cart and he and Hank Krug, PGA Professional give individual and group lessons. Randy Wittig, is the long time director of golf and tournaments here and you cannot find a better place to hold an event. It’s centrally located east of 56th St. between Shea Blvd. and Cactus Rd.
